What do the ingredients do?

Coconut oil: This is a moisturizing power. About 65% of coconut oil’s composition is medium-chain fatty acids like lauric acid and linoleic acid, which is why coconut oil is so beneficial for your skin and lips. It soothes, helps treat chapped lips, hydrates and it can kill harmful microorganisms (effectively kill bacteria and fungi). Coconut oil also helps protect your lips from the sun - it has an estimated SFP factor of 7.

Shea butter: Contains linoleic, palmitic, stearic, and oleic fatty acids - ingredients that balance oils on your skin and lips. It also has vitamins A, E, and F, which promote circulation and healthy skin cell growth. Its high concentration of vitamins and fatty acids make it a great product for smoothing, soothing, and conditioning your lips and locking in moisture.  It is anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antibacterial and antifungal. Using shea butter on your lips does give you some added sun protection – it contains an estimated SPF of 3 to 4.

Beeswax: Beeswax has been used topically since ancient Egyptian times. It benefits by softening and lubricating skin and lips, preventing water loss and providing a protective barrier. Furthermore, it has antiseptic properties, which may help protect from pathogenic microorganisms and thanks to its vitamin A, it helps lips regenerate sooner after damage.

Lavender essential oil (Lavandula angustifolia): Lavender oil is helpful for wound healing and helps balance out moisture levels on your lips. It’s an anti-inflammatory that can reduce redness and a natural hydrator that can repair dry lips.

Tea tree essential oil (Melaleuca alternifolia): This is one of the most notable antiseptics in alternative medicine. Tea tree oil contains more than 100 different components and is rich in anti-inflammatory, antifungal, antiseptic and antimicrobial properties, all of which can be utilized to treat many common issues and heal wounds caused by bacteria.
